2010 SITC TESTIMONIALS

“Summer in the City is not the average artistic program. Unlike most summer programs, SITC provides multiple opportunities for an individual to make a mark in their career. While up in New York, you have the ability to sign with an agent and start a real career in whatever you choose. I achieved more in a month than I have in 4 years. This program is life-changing.” -Nolan Bateman

“Summer in the City is an epic, life-changing experience that has made me more confident in myself and in my performance. The program focuses on every aspect of each discipline to make students more well-rounded.” -Kaylan Lu Becker

Summer in the City- This experience has been so eye-opening and has made me realize how much I want to be a professional actress. This was an amazing way of deciding if I would like to start a career up in NY because of the contacts I have gained and the help I received from phenomenal teachers. It was a glimpse at the future I’d like to work towards. Students interested in the arts should definitely consider this program when they are ready to make the next step, I couldn’t think of a better way to learn and experience the life in the entertainment business. -Jenna Chandler

“Summer in the City has changed my life! This was the best month I have ever experienced. I now have life-long friends locally and in New York, and I have gained a clearer picture of what I want to do with my life. I would still be playing my career by ear if I hadn’t come. This is a wonderful program that can really help a person find their true calling. Amazing!” -AJ Gardner

“Summer in the City was a real “eye-opener”. Being a singer, I did not realize how close the relationship was between acting/theatre is to singing. Studying and analyzing monologues really helped me to understand how to perform my songs. This program was so encouraging, we worked with people who successfully made their living in this industry. It was fantastic.” -Alexandra Martindale

“Summer in the City was an amazing experience for me. I have learned so much from the great classes we attended and the outstanding teachers. I now feel more confident in my acting ability and more prepared to go out into the world of acting.” -Sasha Lorow

"Summer in the city was the most encouraging and mind-blowing experience I have ever had. Before I joined this program I had a low self-esteem regarding my talent. But when South of Broadway sent me to New York, I worked hard and learned to see myself as talented. The teachers and coaches are the ones who showed me this. They really cared, taking all of the students seriously, on an individual basis and as a group. This program has taught me new ways to carry myself on stage and made me a more confident, developed actor. Thanks for Summer in the City." -Josh Woolwine

On February 7, 2009 South of Broadway Theatre Company's dearest friend and mentor, Victor Hugo Basso departed this planet.

On February 7, 2009 Victor suffered a massive coronary at the home of his boss, Peggy McCay, in Los Angeles. It was over before we even knew what had happened.
In the intervening months, to help everyone touched by this loss to cope, and as a way to honor our friend, the Victor Hugo Basso Theatre Legacy Fund has been established. With it we memorialize the generosity of his spirit and his lifelong pursuit of art.

This fund was created as homage to Victor's lifelong love of, and enthusiasm for, exceptional talent. We want to perpetuate for those who will never know him, his spirit of willingness to nurture and develop -- whatever the sacrifice. And he did sacrifice. Often.

Throughout his life Victor touched and influenced hundreds of artists. He always seemed to know exactly what was needed in any given situation and he always gave it.
He was himself a great performer but always gave more of himself to others than he kept for himself.

If you were one of those people lucky enough to have experienced "The Basso Touch" first hand, this is your opportunity to 'pay it forward,' and to make sure that others can continue to be supported by the extraordinary passion he brought to everything he did.
Take a minute to visit Victor's page: http://www.southofbroadway.com/staff-victor.html or go directly to the donation page: http://www.southofbroadway.com/donate.html on our website where you can donate whatever you will. Any amount is helpful and meaningful: $5 dollars or $5 thousand dollars. Your name will be on the list of donors on Victor's page.

Some of the funds will be used this year towards scholarshipping a student to the milestone fifth year anniversary of "Summer in the City."* Victor was fundamental in establishing this program. He unfailingly showed up every year - at his own expense - to lend his talent, enthusiasm and wisdom to each year's group of young artists.
In future, we expect to make awards to a variety of artists who exemplify and embody the same spirit that Victor showed in practicing his art and and living his life. Guidelines are available on Victor's page.
We thank you on Victor's behalf for validating the generous life he lived for people and art.
